About Clear Ridge Nursery: Native Trees Grown in Maryland Since 1994
Clear Ridge Nursery is a women-owned, family-operated wholesale nursery in Carroll County, Maryland. We grow container native trees and shrubs for conservation, restoration, and landscape projects. Our 87-acre farm sits in USDA Hardiness Zone 6B.
We are MBE/WBE/DBE certified. We stock over 150,000 plants across 70+ species. We also supply ornamental plants from 2G up to 25G.
Our Story
In 1984, Joe and Sharon Barley bought an 87-acre farm in rural Carroll County. Joe had a background in forestry and native plants. His goal was simple: grow native stock for conservation, reforestation, and restoration work.
Clear Ridge Nursery opened in 1994 with 18 species and 20,000 plants. Most were in 1 and 2 gallon containers. The nursery grew fast as equipment, staff, and inventory were added.
In 2008, Jessica Barley (Todd) bought 51% of the company to carry it into the next generation. In 2014, we began supplying native and ornamental plants from other trusted growers. Today we are both a grower and a full wholesale plant supplier.
A Women-Owned, Certified Minority Business
Clear Ridge Nursery earned MBE/WBE/DBE certification in Maryland in 2009. We now hold certification in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and the City of Philadelphia. Several Maryland counties certify us as well.
Our certification helps contractors and agencies meet minority participation goals on public projects.
