The Barley family’s vision was to grow native trees and shrubs for conservation, reforestation, and restoration projects. They started Clear Ridge Nursery with the goal of providing native plants to those who wanted to help the environment. They now grow a variety of native trees and shrubs that are used in conservation, reforestation, and restoration projects across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.  They started Clear Ridge Nursery in 1994 with just 18 species and 20,000 plants in 1-2 gallon containers.  Over the last 25 years, their inventory has expanded to over 70 species of native and ornamental trees and an incredible 350K plants in 2,3,5,7,10 and 15-gallon containers.

About Rhode Island

Rhode Island officially the State of Rhode Island, is a state in the New England region of the Northeastern United States. It is the smallest U.S. state by area and the seventh-least populous, with slightly fewer than 1.1 million residents as of 2020. However, it is the second-most densely populated after New Jersey. Rhode Island borders Connecticut to the west, Massachusetts to the north and east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south via Rhode Island Sound and Block Island Sound; it also shares a small maritime border with New York. Providence is its capital and most populous city.

Despite its small area, Rhode Island, known as the “Ocean State,” boasts over 400 miles of coastline. Rhode Island was founded by Roger Williams in 1636, who had been banished from the Massachusetts colony for his advocacy of religious tolerance and the separation of church and state. At the 2020 U.S. census, its population was 1,097,379. The center of population of Rhode Island is in Providence County, in the city of Cranston.

The first fully automated post office in the country is in Providence. There are many historic mansions in the seaside city of Newport, including The Breakers, Marble House, and Belcourt Castle. Also there is the Touro Synagogue, dedicated on December 2, 1763, considered by locals to be the first synagogue within the United States, and still serving. The Newport Casino is a National Historic Landmark building complex that houses the International Tennis Hall of Fame and features an active grass-court tennis club.
