Platanus occidentalis (Sycamore)
Habit
Extremely large, fast growing canopy tree reaching heights of 75-100 feet tall. Can grow a massive trunk with striking, multi-branched limbs that seemingly reach to the sky. Great as a specimen or within native planting.
Most native Sycamores suffer from anthracnose disease in early spring. Trees will lose their early leaves to the disease but will re-leaf midway into spring after most other trees have already leafed out. Due to beautiful bark we have never found this to be a bother.
Color
Known for its beautiful, mottled, flaking bark. Upper bark on older specimens is snowy white. Beautiful tree year round and especially in winter.
Culture
Highly adaptable but reaches its greatest height and size in bottomland well-drained moist soil.
