Betula nigra (River birch)
Habit
Medium sized, 40-70 foot tree with weeping, pendulous branches when young. Specimen tree for yards, parks, landscapes, or restoration projects. Cluster and group several trees together for maximum effect.
Color
Beautiful multi-color exfoliating bark. Extremely showy in winter. Fairly nice yellow leaves in autumn.
Culture
Native to riverbanks and wetter areas so River Birch prefers well drained and moist soil but it will tolerate and grow in drier upland soil.
