Quercus palustris (Pin Oak)
Habit
Large canopy oak growing to 60-70 feet tall. Used in landscapes and city plantings due to its strong pyramidal shape and rapid growth when young. As Pin Oak matures, it loses the pyramidal structure and morphs into a graceful ovate-shaped specimen.
Color
Dark green leaves in summer changing into a bronze/red in autumn. Large specimens can be quite impressive between the elegant structure and healthy foliage.
Culture
Unlike many oaks, Pin Oak has a fibrous root system and is relatively easy to transplant. Tolerant of many different growing conditions. Although it prefers moist soil, will grow well in dry conditions once established. Prefers full sun.
