Quercus marilandica (Blackjack Oak)
Habit
Blackjack Oak is an interesting mid-size (30-40 foot) oak tree native to sandy, infertile soils of the coast and south. It is relatively shrubby in its native range but given better soil conditions and growth environment it will grow into a small to medium sized tree.
Color
Yellowish-brown leaves in autumn.
Culture
Will survive on barren soils, much like Pitch Pine. Will grow well in moist, well-drained soil but extremely adaptable to poor growing conditions once established.
