Prunus serotina (Black Cherry)
Habit
Medium to large canopy tree with broad, spreading branches. Pyramidal in youth, Black Cherry quickly grows into an oval shaped mature tree with pendulous branches. A strong and durable tree for an open field or wood line.
Color
Beautiful white racemes of flowers cover trees in late spring. In summer, watch for the colorful (red to black) fruit clusters and shiny dark green leaves.
Culture
Will thrive in full sun and moist well-drained soil. Black Cherry is known to tolerate many soil conditions as long as it has adequate drainage. Once established in the ground, it can live to be a spectacular tree.
