Prunus serotina (Black Cherry)
Habit: Medium to large canopy tree with broad, spreading branches. Pyramidal in youth, Black Cherry quickly grows into an oval shaped mature tree with pendulous branches. A strong and durable tree for an open field or wood line.
Color: Beautiful white racemes of flowers cover trees in late spring. In summer, watch for the colorful (red to black) fruit clusters and shiny dark green leaves.
Culture: Will thrive in full sun and moist well-drained soil. Black Cherry is known to tolerate many soil conditions as long as it has adequate drainage. Once established in the ground, it can live to be a spectacular tree.
