Betula nigra (River birch)
Habit: Medium sized, 40-70 foot tree with weeping, pendulous branches when young. Specimen tree for yards, parks, landscapes, or restoration projects. Cluster and group several trees together for maximum effect.
Color: Beautiful multi-color exfoliating bark. Extremely showy in winter. Fairly nice yellow leaves in autumn.
Culture: Native to riverbanks and wetter areas so River Birch prefers well drained and moist soil but it will tolerate and grow in drier upland soil.
